SARADINDU MAITRA

Painter

Tell us about your artistic style?

There were phases when my practices went through different phases but it has been more than a half decade that I was working in expressionistic styles and now for the last few years I’ve been working on abstract expressionism.  I prefer to name my working style only as expressionism irrespective of figurative and non figurative work.

Do you have a particular story you’d love to share?

When I paint many at times I go beyond this physical world and whatever happens in my surroundings I am unaware. people come, speak to me but I don’t remember anything about what my response was. After coming back to consciousness I feel extremely happy and wait for that moment to happen again.

One such moment was once my mother gave a glass of milk and food to eat and during lunch I went on with a complaint that why hasn’t she offered anything to eat.

Another incident was that on a fine day I was sketching on a railway platform and about to meet an accident just for not hearing anything at that moment.

The magical power of art taking me into a beautiful world is what I love.

When did you realize you were an artist?

I realized about my drawing skills when I was in 2nd standard in the primary school

If you feel comfortable, tell us about the struggles you’ve had either as an artist, or in the process of creating your work

As an artist my endeavor has always been to do something new and for that matter I easily leave my comfort zone. I have been working as a free artist and never been compromised.

I had been struggling for financial support for many years and even had to work as a child laborer also. I had to go through many laborious work to fulfill my education but to be frank I got financially supported following my passion only and able to contribute something for my parents. Thanks to the almighty for giving me strength and blessing me always.

Does creating art help you heal?

Surely but I would say it just makes me so busy that I don’t get time to remember hurts.

What motivates you to create?

It is life itself, my understanding motivates me to create and express.

“We see beauty through the lens of performed ideas that we are inundated with on a daily basis. Abstract art allows seeing beyond that idea of exhibiting the permanent values of art. My work brings the very essence of beauty through the use of colors, lines, textures, volumes and perspective etc. It is a journey to explore the unknown and enjoy an adventures journey of creating an art piece.”
